Built in Elizabethan times as a timber framed house around a courtyard, but its most striking
features date back to two major rebuilding schemes undertaken around 1620 – 1670. From the
earlier date came the
highly glazed entrance façade which was built at the front of the old house, the fascinating series of painted panels
in the Hall and the Long Gallery which has as many windows as a modern office block. The latter date gave
spectacularly molded plaster ceilings in the Hall and Drawing Room. The Hall is now home to Chorley Museum and
contains some fine examples of seventeenth-century furniture.

We offer reductions for groups of 10
and over and open evenings for groups from April to September - a buffet
supper and costumed guided tours make these evenings a popular choice, so book
early! Visit the Hall Shop for a souvenir of your visit and for a range of
