Astley Hall

Built in Elizabethan times as a timber framed house around a courtyard, but its most striking features date back to two major rebuilding schemes undertaken around 1620 – 1670. From the earlier date came the highly glazed entrance façade which was built at the front of the old house, the fascinating series of painted panels in the Hall and the Long Gallery which has as many windows as a modern office block. The latter date gave spectacularly molded plaster ceilings in the Hall and Drawing Room. The Hall is now home to Chorley Museum and contains some fine examples of seventeenth-century furniture.
