Beeston Castle

Nr Nantwich

Cheshire

Tel 01829 260464

Location Map

11 miles South East of Chester, off A49 or A41.

Standing upon sheer, rocky crags, Beeston has perhaps the most stunning views from any castle in England. Starting life as a Bronze Age hill fort 4,000 years ago, the huge castle started life around 1226 by Earl Ranulf of Chester upon his return from the 5th Crusade and soon became a royal stronghold, only falling centuries later during the English Civil War.

Now mostly ruins, there is a 'Castle of the Rock' exhibition which outlines the history of the site from prehistoric times, through the Middle Ages to the Civil War at the bottom of the hill..
