The family home of the Heskeths, Rufford Old hall was given to the National Trust by the first Lord Hesketh in 1936. It is one of the finest sixteenth century buildings in the county of Lancashire. Unlike many historic buildings, there is an informal 'lived in' feel to the house which helps to bring the past alive. The Hall sits in seven hectares of grounds bordering the Leeds - Liverpool canal containing peaceful gardens and woodland with picnic tables
