Hoghton Tower

Hoghton Tower - Hoghton - Nr. Preston - Lancashire - PR5 0SH

A beautiful example of English renaissance architecture. It stands proudly on its hill overlooking the surrounding countryside, an impressive sight for visitors driving up its mile long drive. A visit to this spectacular fortified house will reveal numerous real life stories involving the most famous people in British history. A young William Shakespeare started his working life at Hoghton Tower and during a night of merriment King James I knighted a loin of beef and the 'Sir loin' steak was born. The great house is also reckoned to be the second most haunted in the country. Hoghton Tower also hosts many special events throughout the year.
