St Helens has had a world-wide reputation for flat glass production since the 18th Century. The World of Glass will take you on an interactive journey which explores the magical beauty of the material called glass. The glass museum collection traces the history of glassmaking from the Egyptians to the present day, with some of the finest examples of glass in the world. Visitors can learn of the many applications of glass in transport, lighting, buildings, science and technology. Many interactive exhibits such as the Periscope and the working lighthouse optic Galleries, showing a collection of ancient and modern glass objects. Historic glass-making furnace. Opening times: 10.00 am to 5.00 pm Tuesday to Sunday and Bank Holidays. Please ring for opening times during the Christmas and New year period.
