Speedwell Cavern

An 18thC lead mine and natural cavern which is visited by boat.

A fascinating boat ride through the flooded workings of an 18thC lead mine. The boat trips are fully supervised by experienced guides and take you deep inside a limestone hill to the 'bottomless pit', a huge underground lake in the natural Speedwell Cavern.

The source of the rare Blue John stone with a fine range of natural water-worn caverns with stalactites and stalagmites.

Set in the spectacular scenery of the Peak District, the Blue John Cavern and Mine have been Castleton's greatest attraction for nearly 300 years and the main source of its unique mineral, Blue John stone. The water-worn caves are of entertaining and geological interest for all ages.

Poole's Cavern and Buxton Country Park

One of the finest natural limestone caves, described as the 'first wonder of the Peak' with stalactites, stalagmites, an exhibition area, video show, visitor centre and country park

Poole's Cavern is a beautiful showcave, 1000ft in length (only 20 steps) electrically illuminated and suitable for all ages, a visitor centre with exhibitions about the cave and woodlands, a mineral collection and the 'Story of Limestone' video. Buxton Country Park is 100 acres of mainly decidous woodland; it contains a nature trail which takes the visitor to Soloman's Temple at 1400ft with panoramic views of the areas, a visitor centre and picnic area.
