There are two reasons for visiting this museum on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, one is for an informative journey to the industrial past of the narrowboat when canals were the main means of transport for the coal and iron industries. The other is to witness the impressive lock sequence which gives the place it's name. It rises 160 feet in just half a mile!


Milford Haven Museum

The story of Milford Haven town and waterway concentrating on the two hundred plus years since the town was founded in 1790. Atmospheric, hands on displays with audiovisual backup, main themes :- Quakers and Whaling, Deep Sea Fishing and the modern Oil Industry.

Segontium Roman Museum

Segontium Roman Museum vividly portrays the story of the conquest and occupation of Wales by the Romans and displays the finds from the nearby auxiliary fort of Segontium, one of the most famous in Britain. Combine a visit to the museum with exploration of the site of the Roman fort, cared for by Cadw, Welsh Historic Monuments.

Tenby Museum

Community museum relating to the culture and heritage of south Pemrokeshire. Housed in part of the remains of Tenby Castle and although looking deceptively small from the outside, the museum has six spacious galleries, research facilities and a gift shop.

Open  Nov to Mar weekdays 10am-5pm; and Apr to Oct, daily, 10am-5pm.

Closed for a fortnight over Christmas. Please phone for details.

Welsh Slate Museum

The Welsh Slate Museum at Llanberis has recently been relaunched following investment of a £1.6 million lottery grant, bringing back to life the inheritance of the North Wales slate industry which roofed the industrial revolution. Not so much a museum as a pocket of history, it is as though the quarrymen and engineers put down their tools and left the courtyard for home, just hours before.
